Yes-Sun Environment Biotech Co.,Ltd
Pioneer in Organic waste treatment-
Composting-free Technology, retrieving the organic life cycle in nature
Core concept: Environmental protection, giving back to society, and making profits
I entered Yes-Sun, and in the conversation with them reminded me of the phrase that the famous host, Oprah Winfrey, said.
Yes-Sun was established in 1998. With more than 30 years experience in representing professional medical instruments and devices in various countries around the world, Mr. Shing-Hong Lee, CEO of Yes-Sun, deeply believes that the deteriorating environment can be corrected in a medical way, and enterprises must concurrently manage environmental protection and their feedback to the society while pursuing corporate profits
Facing the living crisis resulted from global warming and the debates over environmental protection. It is Yes-Sun’s belief to “feedback the society from what has been obtained.” Therefore, the purpose of the company is not only to create maximum profits for shareholders, but also expect to be a responsible business and member of the “Social Enterprise,” devote its contribution to the general public and environmental protection.
Win-win situation: Protecting the environment and the company’s development at the same time.
The secondary pollutions derived from processing organic disposals in different countries have not only harmed the environment the second time, its pollutants are also not tolerable to the human . The overall social resources are squandered endlessly. How to effectively make use of the regeneration value of the organic waste and “turn the trash into gold” has hence become an R&D priority for Yes-Sun.
Therefore, Yes-Sun invited scholars and experts in the fields of biochemistry, soil science, botany, environmental engineering, medication, and animal science etc, and form a strong R&D team that has accumulated many years of experiences in its devotion to the research and development of organic waste processing technologies which combined with CEO Lee’s expertise in the medical instruments and devices industry for the development of hardware equipment, through numerous times of trials and errors, the practical efficacy of the “Composting-free technology” and “Composting-free equipment” has been verified successfully, and obtained multinational patent and trademark marketing and gained its prominence internationally.
“Constant innovations and get ahead of others” is the management concept of Yes-Sun to consolidate corporate position in the market and create new opportunities. With the self-expectations to be one of the best in the world, leading in technology and products, Yes-Sun are not only the developer of bio-technology but also the pioneer in consolidating environmental protection. It is our hope that the “Composting-free technology” can become an effective solution to the reutilization of organic waste and will be helpful in abating global warming. Yes-Sun have always considered itself as a member of the global village, minimizing environmental pollution is the goal that we strive for.
What is “Composting-free technology”?
When it comes to Composting free technology, you first need to know what is ‘Organic waste’, which refers to the residues of animals, plants, microorganisms or ‘wastes produced by natural activities’, such as useless or unwanted substances produced by the production or consumption process, including gaseous, liquid and solid waste.
In simple terms, the composting free technology is the process through the development of innovative engineered treatment system (traditional composting time is about 60 days or more) and application of its unique formulation to stabilize waste, and produce the organic fertilizer which reach the demands of crops growth and safety. The composting free technology successfully fulfills all the above-mentioned criteria and produces quality by-products within 3 hours, while saving costly labor, reducing working space, no polluted water, toxin and odor emission.
◎Applications of Carbon Sequestration of Composting-free Technology
Here we take 100 (kg) of kitchen waste as sample and assume the water content is 80%.The traditional composting was carried out for 60-day stack period
and fast fermentation treatment for 3 days followed by 30-day stack. Comparing to composting free technology after adding 2 kg of the formula for 1 hour treatment and 3 to 24 hours of drying, the dry matter and water ratio were changed as shown in Table 1:
|Technique Type||Process Period||End Product After Treatment|
|Weight of Solid Material (kg)||Content of Water (kg)||Total Weight (kg)||Water Content (%)|
|Original Waste Before Treatment||Untreated||20||80||100||80|
|Traditional Compost||60 Days||10||5||15||33|
|Fast Fermentation||3 Days+30 Days||10||5||15||33|
|Composting-free(No drying process wet fertilizer)||1 Hour||22||80||102||78|
|Composting-free(Complete drying process dry fertilizer)||3~24 Hour||22||11||33||33|
From table 1, we can see that the loss of solid material in traditional compost or fast fermentation is about 50%~60%. It is because the wastes are decomposed by the microbes through a long period of time, and the carbon is released into air in the form of carbon dioxide. As a result, the recycled product retained only 15% of the weight of the original input. In contrast, the processing period of Composting-free Technology is very short and by adding 1~2% formula (enzymes & additives) during the process, we can get 102% wet fertilizer and 33% dried fertilizer separately. Since the reaction period of Composting-free treatment is only 1 hour, it is possible to transfer wastes into wet fertilizer optionally. This can cut down the period and the energy cost of drying. Thus in agricultural field, the most economical way is to apply the wet fertilizer to the soil right after treatment, and save the cost of drying and keeping.
Ecological cycle chain- Zero waste in nature
Traditional organic waste treatment is the use of composting or rapid fermentation, relying on microorganisms or strains to decompose organic matter, resulting that a massive loss of carbon content (approximately 50%~60%) in the waste .The process of decomposition is very time consuming (3-6 months), requires a large space and needs to be re-piled up frequently, and the process will cause odor, air and wastewater pollution.
Processing of Composting-free Technology
(1) High organic matter content in Composting-free Product
Composting-free Technology applies organic enzymes as catalyst to react in a short period, so there is no loss of carbon. As a result, the organic matter content of Composting-free end product is much higher than those from the traditional treatment methods.
(2) The C/N Ratio Remains Unchanged after Treatment
C/N ratio is a very important factor in the traditional compost field, people used it to judge the ripen status of the end products, but it is not a general rule. For examples, the C/N ratio of untreated soy flour is less than 20 of its C/N ratio, but it is not fully ripened. The C/N ratio of forest peat is greater than 20, but it is a stable end product. Furthermore, C/N ratio is not an essential factor to constitute the fertilizer, because the carbon content is not the element to affect the growth of crops. Composting-free Technology is capable to sequestrate the carbon in the end products, so the C/N ratio remains the same as in original wastes after treatment.
(3) The Carbon Footprint of the Composting-free End Product is lower than others
Yes-sun participated in the 2016 SME energy conservation and carbon reduction counseling, conducted a carbon footprint survey of the composting free technology to treat organic waste, and analyzed and calculated the amount of waste disposal per ton of waste – the carbon footprint of the composting free service was 48.306 kg CO2e.
Refer to the Waste Incineration Plant announced by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan – Waste incineration treatment service has a carbon footprint of 606 KgCO2e per ton of waste; Southern Taiwan Science Park _ Tainan Park has a carbon footprint of 707 KgCO2e. In the same functional unit (processing per ton of organic waste), the greenhouse gas emissions from Composting-free treatment are 1/12 to 1/14 times of incineration/buried disposal. That is, compared to incineration/buried treatment, the disposal of organic waste by the Composting-free technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 92%.
Multi-application and examples of Composting free technology
◎Composting-free DIY fertilizer machine rapidly turns PLA into Organic fertilizer
The main materials of biodegradable plastics are starch, polylactic acid (PLA) and fiber protein. The contents of the biodegradable plastics do not contain traditional plastic components, and they are still comparable to traditional plastics in the use of enamel. Biodegradable plastics can be decomposed into carbon dioxide and water in the soil by aerobic microorganisms, water and oxygen in a polyoxic environment, and decomposed into carbon dioxide and methane by anaerobic microorganisms and H2O in a low oxygen environment.
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a raw material fermented from starch. It is mainly derived from plants. Although it can be biodegraded, it takes about 25 months to hydrolyze at room temperature, and it takes 11.4 months for bio-degradation to start. This is a shortcoming, even if it under good high temperature （60℃-70℃）and high water content（50-60%）, it still takes at least 50 days to decompose, and it needs to be combined with specific temperature and humidity conditions to have a chance to completely decompose. However, using Yes-Sun Composting machine, organic waste can be converted into organic fertilizer in 90 minutes, solving the problem that PLA is not easy to handle.
▲、PLA tableware, the package is broken into pellets of about 5mm size
▲、The PLA is mixed with chicken manure to convert into organic fertilizer by using
DIY fertilizer machine for 90 minutes.
The combination of Ecological cycle chain and Industry 4.0
Yes-Sun products are also on the wave of Industry 4.0, more operation parameters are recorded and controlled by the new IoT sensors attached to system, such as environment temperature, material temperature, mixing speed, heating power and other reaction parameters. All data are transmitted to cloud server through internet and analyzed in real-time. The operation parameters will be automatic adjusted by software to ensure the enzymes are in best reaction condition for entire process.
Yes-Sun perspective on sustainable business is to pursue long-lasting value and the fundamental condition of it will be only by bringing the traditional beliefs and concepts into the business model of enterprise. Vicious competition of the market leads to squander resources and environmental pollution, and severely threaten the natural ecology. Hence, the enterprises bear greater social responsibilities and can no longer bring down the value of the primitive resources manually on the contract, they have to turn down the traditional value and create a new business operation rules. As sociologist Kappa William has put it, “during any decision making process, if its investment is only for the purpose of making money, it will only minimize the cost by transferring its lose on to the third parties, the society or environment”. Yes-Sun sincerely hope that the “Composting-free Technology” may solve the conflicts encountered by the governments and enterprises around the world in striking a balance between economic development and environmental protection and whereby discarding the economic development myth of self restriction in zero sum game. It is absolutely irresponsible to obtain interests by wasting natural resources; similarly, economic growth achieved through environmental deterioration is not in the overall socio-economic interest, nor shall be considered as the economic growth of the country. The governments, enterprises and civilian communities shall closely work together to make more concrete contribution in terms of environmental protection. Those who can justify his behavior properly fulfill his own responsibility, then he may be count as one member in the world.
